Comrade Abiala premised this work on a jurisprudential platform -specifically on the Austanian command theory of law. He attempted an impressive survey of landmarks in the development of trade union law with a view to identifying the national interest that the various legislations were meant to serve. He came to a conclusion not unexpected, considering the major focus of his analysis -which is 'to paint anAustanian picture of trade union laws in Nigeria as a command of a sovereign and to pontificate the reality of inequality and of -ubiquitous relationship between the employers and employees .. ,' Judging from the scope covered by this work, it is a welcome addition to the literature on trade unionism in Nigeria. It is an addition that is at once academic and professional. A seasoned and tested trade unionist himself, Comrade Abiala has sought - rather successfully in my view - to subject the Nigerian trade union experience to empirical legal analysis
