The Forest Dames is a creative non-fiction about mothers and daughters during the Biafran war. The central force of the narrative is the suffering of women and children, and the desire of the characters to uphold their dignity as women. Girls were routinely captured to become bed mates for soldiers. A group of women, including the narrator's mother, decided to guard against this. The book is a nonjudgmental and balanced story which the narrator's alter ego now tells in flashback.
