"The War Against Counterfeit Medicine My Story", chronicles the ills of fake / counterfeit medicines, substandard food, cosmetics and related products. The author, Dora Nkem Akunyili, highlights her experience as Director General of Nigeria's National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC). She waged an all out war against the hydra-headed monster, with the aim of safeguarding the lives of Nigerians. The author takes us through the harrowing fright of sustained intimidations and threats which culminated in a failed assassination attempt on her life. Not deterred, she relentlessly continued the war against counterfeit medicine, employing ingenious and novel strategies to outwit the counterfeiters. The result was a tremendous drop in the level of fake / counterfeit drugs, substandard food, cosmetics and related products in Nigeria, and indeed the West African sub-region.
